We started around 7:00 pm and worked by natural light from the east patio doors. I used HB pencil, adding in 4B tonal accents toward the end. By the time that I moved on to Gregory’s portrait, daylight was fading. We added a floor lamp and changed places; Gregory sat in the large leather recliner and I sat in the simple straight-back chair. This reversed the light/shade relationships. Jeff has light on the left side, his right; Gregory has light on the right side, his left — the light seems to push them together. Gregory faced me frontally, and as much as he tried to focus on a point past my head, he often looked with his eyes toward Jeff and John. I indicated his shoulders, arms, and his collared, short-sleeved shirt. The pose, though faced frontally, has a lot of movement.
